Home to undergraduates, graduate students and faculty members engaged in innovative research and learning, the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) provides students with real-world experience plus a conceptual education.
We focus on giving our students hands-on experiences that will help improve the world through sustainability and better environmental health. Led by expert faculty, our students have completed — and continue to operate — incredible projects, such as an integrated greenhouse, wood-pellet heating and an anaerobic digestion system, for our on-campus energy-efficient food and waste management facility. They also compete at the undergraduate level on many CEE-related SPEED teams, including Timber Bridge, Steel Bridge, Construction Management and Engineers for International Sustainability.
Our faculty have unique research areas, from 24/7 wireless bridge monitoring, to showing how cranberry bogs negatively affect stream health. We know that sustainability is increasingly important for industry, academia and society alike, so we partner with Clarkson’s Institute for a Sustainable Environment to create interdisciplinary experiences and research projects.
