The Office of Alumni Relations and the Wallace H. Coulter School of Engineering are offering two seminars in July providing alumni and friends with an opportunity to learn more about current research at Clarkson.  If you are interested, you may register for 1 CEU (or 10 CEU contact hours).  The cost of the seminar covers materials, transportation to locations downtown and field stations as well as meals.  For professionals who are taking the seminars for CEU credit there will be an additional charge to obtain an official certificate of attendance.

"The Modern Power Grid"

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering will be offering a two-day seminar on the Modern Power Grid which will focus on deregulation, the Smart Grid and renewable energy sources and will offer a tour of Clarkson's high voltage laboratory which specializes in the testing of various grid components.  The laboratory is located at Peyton Hall, downtown Potsdam.  Presentations will be given by Prof. Thomas Ortmeyer, Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (www.clarkson.edu/ece), Prof. Paul McGrath and alumnus Richard Mills '66.

"Water Resources Sustainability"

The second seminar will discuss research that addresses issues surrounding water resources sustainability, including desalination feasibility, real-time water monitoring, managing surface water resources and sustainability of surface and groundwater resources through engineered and agricultural systems.  This two-day seminar is taught by Prof. Hung Tao Shen, Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (www.clarkson.edu/cee/), Prof. James Bonner, Prof. Amy Zander, and Prof. Shane Rogers and will allow participants an opportunity to visit the new "Old Main" environmental robotics and sensor development laboratory and a sensor field deployment test site.

Dorm rooms will be available to all participants for Wednesday and Thursday night.   You are welcome to stay on campus for our tent picnic Friday evening, followed by our outdoor concert with Nik and the Nice Guys.  You will not need to change rooms if you are planning on staying for all of reunion weekend.
