Clarkson Student Spotlight: February '10
Eva Cartwright ‘10
Biology
We'd call Eva an "overachiever," but we like her too much. And let's be honest, we're a bit impressed. An early senior, Eva has sped up her studies at Clarkson so that she can graduate at age 19! The Fayetteville, North Carolina resident was a "schoolie" at Clarkson, which let her come to Clarkson her senior year of high school to get a jump start on her college education. Now on campus, Eva is the vice president of Tri-Beta, the biology honor society. She also performs research with Assistant Professor of Biology James Schulte. We caught up with Eva to see what else she's got going on.
What are your favorite things about Clarkson?
I like Clarkson because it's small, so it's a student community where you know everybody. Plus, you have one-on-one time with professors.
Tell us something that people would be surprised to know about you.
Also, I am an army brat! I have lived in Germany, Texas, and many other countries.
Who is your favorite professor and why?
Professor Schulte. I have been doing research with him since my freshman year. He is so intelligent and he is always willing to help me out. He cares about the students and goes beyond the classroom, helping with courses, school applications and careers.
Describe yourself in three words.
Outgoing, ambitious, and joyful!
If you could have dinner with anyone, real, imaginary, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
I would love to have dinner with my grandpa. He was very interesting but I was too young to appreciate it. I would love to have a conversation with him and learn some of his wisdom.
What would be your ideal last meal?
Eggplant parmesan!
Why did you choose Clarkson?
Well I went to The Clarkson School for my senior year of high school and decided that I wanted to stay for the rest of my education. I also loved the biology program here and that I could do research as a freshman.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want get my PharmD and PhD and do pharmaceutical research.
What is your favorite spot on campus?
I like the view from the Concrete Café on the 3rd floor of the Science Center because you can see the changing color of the trees and into the Adirondacks on a clear day. It's beautiful!
