Clarkson Student Spotlight: August '09
Jasmine Stephens '10
Psychology major, biology minor, pre-med concentration
After we heard that Jasmine was named Clarkson's Most Eligible Bachelorette of 2009, we had to learn more about her! A member of the Clarkson Goldies dance team, Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, Phi Delta Epsilon (pre-health fraternity), and Psi Chi (psychology fraternity), it's no wonder she's got a great rep at Clarkson. The Houston, Texas native has brains, too; she’s in the Honors Program and is a McNair Scholar. Let's see what else she's got going on.
Q: Why did you choose Clarkson?
A: I wasn't at all scared to leave Texas. In fact, the idea of living somewhere new was exciting. I also loved the small campus and I was drawn by how personal it felt, where I wasn't just another face in the crowd. It also had the major I wanted and a solid pre-med opportunity.
Q: What are you doing this summer?
A: I'm spending my summer at Albert Einstein College of Medicine with the Minority Student Summer Research Opportunity Program, working in the anatomy and structural biology laboratory. I also have to take the MCAT, so I'll be studying for that!
Q: What is your favorite smell?
A: Even though I don't like to eat coconuts, I do LOVE the smell of them!
Q: What is your favorite thing about Clarkson?
A: I really love the deep interest that the faculty, staff, and students have in research. My professors are constantly pushing me to consider graduate or medical school. It's nice to know that I have their support in continuing my education.
Q: If you could reincarnate as any animal, which would it be? Why?
A: I'd come back as a puppy. Everyone loves them and I'd just lay around all day getting my belly rubbed!
Q: What has been your favorite class so far?
A: There have been a few, but Literature of American Pop Music is number one. It was so fun learning the evolution of music. And of course, listening to a variety of genres of music in class wasn't too bad either!
Q: What is your guilty pleasure?
A: Reality TV! I watch way too much of it.
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: I want to be a psychiatrist. For as long as I can remember, that's what I've wanted to be one. I just love how they get to integrate the counseling world with the medical world and help people.
